Compliance Audit

Learn what the OSHA Compliance Audit Means for your Business

The following is a brief description of the audit process. Links to more specific information are provided.

The Compliance Audit identifies oversights and deficiencies that may be cited on an OSHA inspection. In response to the information gathered, employers prioritize and take corrective actions.

These audits are conducted either by in-house personnel or by expert consultants.

The prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses is the primary goal. Having your ducks in a row for a possible OSHA inspection and for avoiding OSHA penalties, are two other good reasons to be proactive.

Components

The typical compliance audit considers and examines the following:

System

A systematic health and safety program is then developed from the information gathered during the OSHA Compliance Audit. This health and safety management system addresses four elements:

  1. Management Leadership and Employee Involvement
  2. Work site Analysis
  3. Hazard Prevention and Control
  4. Training

Appropriate heath and safety training for everyone at the jobsite ensures maximum benefit from the OSHA Compliance Audit. Specific training is, in fact, a requirement of many OSHA standards.

For these reasons, heath and safety training become a high priority. Scheduling training time with knowledgeable trainers is essential.

Finally, your safety and health program establishes an ongoing process for monitoring and controlling workplace hazards. This process includes trained employees, monthly work site walk throughs and annual reviews for effectiveness and needs.

Summary

From an OSHA Compliance Audit you are able to put in place a systematic process for continuous compliance with OSHA requirements and guidelines. This process must make coordinated and efficient use of your company's resources. The end result is optimum workplace health and safety with minimized business interruption if and when an OSHA inspection occurs.
